College towns are popular retirement destinations because they offer great amenities like places to eat, things to do, diverse communities, and lots of sports games for weekend entertainment.

University of Michigan

Ann Arbor is the beautiful home of the Michigan Wolverines and the Big House, the largest stadium in the country. The summers aren’t too warm, but you’ll need to be prepared for cold and snowy winters if you decide to settle there.

Athens is home to the Georgia Bulldogs and while it gets pretty hot in the summer it’s consistently ranked as one of the nation’s best college towns. Athens is particularly known for its art and music scenes: R.E.M and the B-52’s got their start there. If you’re an artsy person, you won’t be bored in Athens.

University of California, Berkeley

Berkeley is nationally regarded as one of the most beautiful college towns in the country. Berkeley is home to the Cal Golden Bears, and is known for its great food and free thinking.

Home to the Colorado Buffaloes, this mountain town is a great place to hike and go on outdoor adventures. It’s also home to many music and film festivals. The cost of living in Boulder is above average, but it’s known for offering a high quality of life, health, and well-being.

Chapel Hill is part of the “triangle” of three great college towns, Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill, all about half an hour apart. On top of that, the Tar Heels’ rivalry with Duke just down the road leads to some memorable game day experiences.
